CHICAGO – Lincoln Park Lagooners holds its annual Wisconsin Wilderness Weekend trip July 30-Aug. 1. Hundreds of gay men and women have participated in the event over the past 30 years.
“It’s a chance for Chicagoans to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and experience the beauty and tranquility of northern Wisconsin,” says LPL Board Member and trip organizer Tony Myers. “We have the whole campground to ourselves.”
Participants can enjoy hiking, horseback riding and antiquing, and for those so inclined, a raft trip down the Wolf River. Rafters experience both the tranquility and excitement of riding the river through the wilderness of the Menominee Indian Reservation. Also nearby is a casino.
“But one of the best experiences is meeting new friends, especially in the evening around the camp fire,” says Myers. “We have people that attend every year, but always have quite a contingent of new campers. It’s great fun and a great way to meet new people.”
The weekend includes all meals, beverages (including beer) and the campground fee. Private indoor showers are available. There is also an early arrival option.
LPL is a gay social organization originally founded as a sports club in Lincoln Park. It no longer has any affiliation with Lincoln Park, but hosts a variety of social events throughout the year and is open to all gay men and women. There are no membership dues.
